Woke up just before day two of welding and had an epiphany. What if i wore my reading glasses while welding? I did, and it changed everything. Now instead of an orange sort of glowing thing, was the puddle of molten steel in fine detail, just like what i looked at in my twenties. So i spent the day making really beautiful welds, and still amazed at the whole process. How in striking an arc, the steel is instantly heated to 6200 degrees F, and what fun to glue things together this way.
only down side is that i need to get a respirator, even with a fan blowing on me i feel like i've smoked a couple packs of pall malls.
and how fun to have my welding setup outside, under the trees in the dappling sun, kids playing ball, chickens clucking and roosters crowing while i'm fitting together an amazing gate.
