Last Of

Today was working on the place here on Jonive Rd, built and installed the drawers down to putting on the handles. It's always a pleasure to enjoy the finished product by pulling drawers in and out. Sometimes i forget that i do like this kind of work, though it seems overwhelming sometimes, but then it all comes together.
Besides working, i had the distinct sense that this might be the last time i do this, or that. That my time here is limited now, really just four weeks, and i won't be building and installing the drawers anymore. Tomorrow other things and then they will be done.
Not to mention picking the last of the persimmons from the tree right outside my bedroom window. When i came here last week the tree was filled with maybe hundreds of persimmons. Some extremely ripe, just thin bags of fruit, and others ripening on the branches. That first night i heard a commotion and could see in the moonlight, 3 big racoons eating the persimmons, climbing out to the ends of branches that were bowing under their weight. That first night they took about a third of what was on the tree. Then the next night more commotion, this time the 3 racoons were joined by one big fat white opposum. I shined a light on it and it stopped mid bite to look at me, then went right back at it. Then later there were deer under the tree, just about 6 feet from my head on the pillow, eating what the racoons and opossum were dropping.
What's most amazing is that last march i watched the leaves coming in on the branches, every morning while i sit and meditate and look out at the tree. Tiny leaves unfurled and then flowers bloomed and right before i went to NY in the summer there were tiny persimmons.
Now the tree is cleaned out. After that second night of activity i got out a tall ladder and picked the remaining fruit, i think i got about 40 persimmons and that's it.
Next year there will be someone else living here, watching the leaves and the fruit and the flowers and then fighting off the local wildlife to get a few to eat.
